Guide to New Lead-Base Paint Renovation, and Repair
The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) rule is a federal regulatory program affecting anyone who disturbs painted surfaces where lead may be present. This ruling applies to any contractor who disrupts more than six square feet of lead paint in pre-1978 home, schools, day care centers, and other places where children spend time.Firms must be certified and renovators must be trained. Your company must be EPA Lead-Safe Certified and your workers must be EPA Lead-Safe trained before April 22, 2010. Without certification and training, and by not following approved practices, you and your company can face tens of thousands of dollars in fines and put yourself and your company at risk of potential lawsuits. When applying for accreditation for the RRP training program as a Training Provider, you will be required to identify a Training Program Manager and at least one Principal Course Instructor to teach the 8-hour RRP program.
